It’s nearing two in the morning when the party finally clears out.

“Night, sis.” I unwrap my arms from around a smiley and semi-intoxicated Silver and pound fists with Kingston. “You two staying for the weekend?”

He shakes his head. “Just for the night. I’ve got practice in the morning.”

“Alright. Take care of her.”

Kingston nods, leaving no doubt in my mind that he’s sincere. “Always do.”

Hope and Anderson trail behind them. “Hey, tell your new hires they did a great job tonight,” Anderson says. “You picked a good crew.”

I give him my cockiest glare. “You underestimate me.”

Anderson grins. “Careful, or I’ll plant another bug in your ear to stick around full time.”

Chuckling, I shake my head. “You’ve already planted one bug too many, brother. Seattle is my home now. That’s not changing.”

Anderson’s gaze slips to my side, causing me to snap my head in that direction. Violet is only a few feet away wiping down tables. Her head is down, but by the withdrawn look on her face, I know she heard what I said.

After locking the door behind my brother, I flip around to face Violet. “Let’s call it a night.”

She looks up, surprised. “What?” She laughs incredulously. “This place is a mess.”

I shrug. “I can clean in the morning. You’ve had a long day, and I still need to show you to your staff cabin.”

“Are you sure? I don’t mind helping clean up.”

“How about you help me in the morning?”

Finally, she shrugs and sets the rag in her hands down on the table. “I am kind of beat.”

I wouldn’t have known she was tired by looking at her. Not a single hair is out of place, her pink lips are still painted though a little fainter than earlier in the night, and her expression-filled eyes are as wide and beautiful as ever.

After grabbing our things from the back room, we head out into the night. Silence fills the open spaces around us, save for the buzz from the lampposts, a frog’s echo, and the crunch of gravel beneath our feet.

The walk isn’t far, seeing as the row of staff cabins are just past the adult camp ground, but I take the opportunity to point out some of the new additions to the camp that she may not have noticed before. The pool, the oriental garden, the spa, and the seemingly never-ending pathways that are all marked with street signs named after Bexley family members.

“Wow, this place really has changed a lot.” Her head turns so that she’s looking at me. “So have you.”

I shove my hands into my pockets and shrug. “Haven’t we all?”

“I suppose. But seeing you tonight reminded me of the old you, before the suit and tie, before the lavish parties. And it was nice to see you, Benny, Anderson, and Silver together again. I didn’t realize how much I missed all that.”

A smile pushes up my cheeks. “Tonight was nice.” My frown is almost instant when I think about Cayson and the fact that he was definitely missed tonight.
